Please join me in congratulating Rachel Evans Evers (let's see if 3 times is a charm!) who won the Easi Speak for her classroom!
Please check your email Rachel (maybe even your spam folder) for directions in order to receive your prize!
This will be the third person Rafflecoptor has chosen for this contest, fingers crossed that Rachel gets this message so she can have this amazing tool for her classroom this year.
I had seen these little microphones all over the internet, so you can imagine my excitement when Learning Resources contacted me and asked me check one out AND gave me one to give away to my readers. This little tool is amazing! First, let me give you the specifics that make this such a kid-friendly classroom tool and then I will share all of the fun ways I used it in my classroom:- Just one button to record.
- Stores 4 hours of audio.
- Charges via your computer's USB port (no batteries!)
- Easy

Here are some ideas of ways that I used it in my classroom:
- As tattling seemed to be getting out of control in my classroom, I set one day aside and told the children to record their tattles into the microphone. Then, I strung all of their tattles together, turned the volume way up and listened. It was very powerful, because they got to hear what I hear all day long and realized how silly some of it really was. We also discussed how some of them were reports and reviewed tattles vs. reports.
- I had the children interview each other about their kindergarten year and put their sweet answers and voices into our end of year slideshow (priceless!).
- I had my apprehensive readers retell familiar stories into the microphone (like fairytales, Pete the Cat, etc.).
- I had my higher readers practice fluency by reading their familiar reads into the microphone. It is really powerful for them to hear the difference between reading like talking vs. reading like a robot.
- Students can read the room while recording
- Students can also read their writing into the microphone.
- Have students record themselves reading the list of sight words and have another student listen to see if they got them all right. Time how fast they did it.
- My favorite? Having the children sing songs that we have learned OR songs that they have made up!

Wouldn't you like to add this bit of technology to your classroom?? If you don't win this, at least make sure you are following my blog because I have a list of more giveaways like this coming up this summer with more prizes for you to win!

I can't wait to use this in my classroom. I can think of a million and one ways to use it. I like the tattling idea. I want to create a digital portfolio of my kids reading, fluency, story telling, etc. I want to also send some of their reading or audio notes home to their parents.
ReplyDeleteI would love to use this in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI would love to use while my children are performing their Readers' Theater!
I would love to use this at my poetry center. Kids could practice reading in silly voices or omitting different words.

I am a school counselor and can see this being an indispensable tool in my office! One thing I can imagine using it for is self-esteem or coping. Letting the students list qualities or strategies and then replaying it for them later in thier OWN voice would be super powerful!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this! I can see many uses for it in my classroom. I would definitely use it to practice reading fluency during our reading circle. Fingers crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteHeather Hall
hhall@lonestar.k12.ok.us
This would also be great for any child that stutters when reading in front of others!!! I love it!!!!! Steph Z, PA
ReplyDeleteI would love this for children to practice their fluency reading to each other, or many other things!!! I want to play around with it and try it out :)
ReplyDeletedrollo@nmrsd.org
I was just thinking of all the ways this might encourage language development for those on the spectrum or other SLP related issues.
ReplyDeleteI would be so excited to add this to my bag of tricks to help students hear their own reading to build fluency. I would also be interest to use this to help my student with speech delays get more practice and build their confidence!
ReplyDeleteI would love one of these! I have limited access to technology in my classroom, and this is a great way to incorporate it.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be perfect for a "reporter" job in the classroom. He/She could report on the top memory or 2 from the day... the weather person could use it also. I'm picturing a KIDS only news report--HOW FUN!! This would be amazing for our readers' theaters as well.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that one will find its way to my room,
Karen :o)
Mrs. Stamp's Kindergarten
I would use this in writer's workshop for students to record and listen to their writing to help with editing/revising. There's just something about hearing your writing read out loud that makes errors and repetition stand out!
ReplyDeleteI want to use this during Daily 5. PLEASE.

I would use it so children can hear themselves read before their fluency test.
ReplyDeleteI love your tattling idea! I was thinking of using it to make audio recordings of the story books in my room. I could record different versions, have guest readers, and even have some of the kids practice their fluency and be added to the class library.

ReplyDeleteI have been wanting one of these for my classroom to make a record from beginning to end of each child's reading progress throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteI would use this for fluency practice during small group. It would help them improve by listening to themselves read.

I love your idea about the tattling! I think that would work with most kindergarten students. I think it might work well for my "All About Me" interview too--especially for my shy students. I think the possible uses are endless!
ReplyDeletemrs.wolf@comcast.net
This would be great for any Kindergarten classroom; the ideas are endless!
ReplyDeletekrista.mayfield@gmail.com
LOVE!!! I am a second-year Kindergarten teacher! This past year, when I was doing my training, some of the other first-year K teachers brought these that they had in the classrooms and I fell in love!! Unfortunately, in a
ReplyDeleteTitle 1 school, we don't have the funds to buy these! I love the idea of my Kinders reading into them and listening to build fluency, and I love your idea of using them for tattles, then showing them a report vs. a tattle. Brilliant! I am also thinking of a specific lesson I did with my babies this past year where we read a story about dinosaurs, we had been studying dinosaurs all week, then I gave them a paper and they had to create and draw their own dinosaur. Then they had to write about it. I would love to use the recorder to let them tell me about their dinosaur, then compare it to what they write. Give them more information to write about the dinosaur, and for my babies who are still struggling with writing can just record about their dinosaurs. This has so many different ways that can help save time for the teacher, I love it!!!
I think there are many ways that I can use it in my classroom. I am moving to title reading this year and it would be good for the kids to read into them and they could hear themselves so they can see if they are reading fluently or not. It would also give some of them more motivation to read if they could read into these. Thanks for the chance to win one.

We work with special needs clients I would love to try the microphone with my Next Chapter Book Clubs to encourage them to read aloud
ReplyDeleteI teach 1st/2nd grade exceptional needs students. Encouraging them to read is often a challenge as they don't see themselves as capable. This would serve as a terrific tool for reading and building self-confidence.
ReplyDeleteMendy schanck.mendy12@gmail.com
DeleteI would love to have the kids read and listen to
ReplyDeletetheir own stories using this!
Sue
gunias@comcast.net
I have wanted one of these so bad! I have so many plans for this when I eventually win one. I would definitely use it to monitor, as well as reinforce fluency. I think recorded interviews with kids about their Moms and Dads could be creatively used for special gifts for Mother's Day and Father's Day. I LOVED the idea of using it to drive home what it sounds like to hear tattling all day long. I'll definitely be stealing that one!!! You could make a CD to go along with class books made from favorite class songs. These could be checked out and taken home. These with all the other ideas Krissy and others have suggested just PROVES that the Easi-Speak Recorder is a MUST HAVE!!!
ReplyDeleteamelias.schaeffer@gmail.com

There are so many ways to use this in my classroom. I would love to record some of my listening station stories with it. I might ask parents to read stories for our listening station. I even think it would be a great way to assess students on skills such as counting.
ReplyDeleteWOW! the possibilities are endless with this little gadget...I would like to have my kiddos practice reading our weekly poems to each other to practice their fluency! I also would love to try out all the other great ideas!
ReplyDeleteLoved all your ideas!! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI am just starting to teach Kindergarten, so that would be a nice addition to use for reading centers. Most kids are more willing to talk into a microphone. They could also introduce themselves to the class using the microphone. Also I love the ideas for the very first day of Kindergarten.
ReplyDeleteThis would be AMAZING!!! I loved the tattle idea you spoke of but I would love to use it for reading to each other or to me. Sooooo many ideas!
ReplyDeleteWell, the possibilities are endless with this microphone. I might have students read during small groups, use during center time to practice fluency, so many ideas floating through my head! Thanks for an amazing blog!

What a great way to make sure that only one student speaks during circle time! It wouldn't even need to be recording.... Another time I would use it is when each student is "Star of the Week" and they share about their family, favorite books, etc. Record it and make it available to their family as a keepsake of kindergarten.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! I am so excited to use these for our Oregon Trail interviews when they pretend to be actual pioneers on the trail.
ReplyDeleteWow! I would love to win this! I could use it in so many ways in my classroom. I LOVE the idea of recording their memories for an end of the year slideshow... and the tattling idea... oh my... the list goes on and on! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the tattle tale idea! I could use it for fluency practice, announcements, private messages to the teacher...so many options
ReplyDeletejudeeastman@gmail.com
Teaching English as a secong language, this could be so useful for assessing growth in speech and conversation.
ReplyDeleteI love the tattling idea! I want one!!
ReplyDeleteI would certainly use this in my first grade by having the kids read to practice fluency, etc. They could play it back and listen and work on improving. I would also like to use it so I could listen to a child read for Dibels.

What a great tool! I am starting at a school in the fall that doesn't have a lot of technology, so this would be great for lots of things...daily 5 read to self, recording for assessments, encouraging the shy ones to speak out and for reading!

ReplyDeleteI teach K so phonics would play a big part...I use technology everyday so morning meeting, calendar math...all on the interactive whiteboard would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteI would use it as a center where the children would record their reading. I think it would be a great way to see how they do without anyone around to help or reassure their process.
ReplyDeleteI would love to receive this prize because I had to cut it from my budget request this year and I really, really wanted one. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI teach K and the ways to use this is limitless! I would love to have one!

This would be an awesome addition to any classroom! Thanks so much for sharing and all of your ideas!
ReplyDeleteI, too, love all your great ideas, and all the new ones contributed in these comments! Wow!! I would certainly use it for center work accountability and to record directions or information needed in the centers. I would love to have the students record original poems or poems and quotes that they have found to have special meaning for them, and then once a week share as a whole class activity, discussing meanings and figurative language devices used. Thanks so very much for this awesome opportunity to win this amazing resource (easi speak microphone). :)
ReplyDeleteI missed the giveaway, but it's okay because I bought one from Lakeshore with my Christmas money. =) I had my kinders read the books they wrote and then took pictures of their writing. I used iMovie to add their voice behind their writing, and we had our very own eBooks! Even my most reluctant writers worked hard for this privilege! Next year I'll have an eBook center with our new iPad, and we can read and listen to our friends' books. =)
