Yakin' It Up With Your Kids
Teaching Blog Addicts is having an interesting Linky Party for parents as their child's teacher. I am very passionate about the learning that can occur before kiddos get to me, so I thought I'd write a post about something that is so easy to integrate into every day living and could also be very helpful to your child's language development.
Studies have shown that kids are talking less during the five years before they enter school and it shows. Children need to talk more for their language development and their overall environmental awareness. Parents need to make a point to talk to and with your children ALL the time about EVERYTHING (and do it EVERYWHERE).
Here is an idea I had for those who want a little help in the area of language development because it's never too early, nor too late: I am providing links to lists of "writing prompts", but, instead of using them for writing, try using them as conversation sparkers and discussion makers. There is even one link that includes "picture prompts" for the really young child. These conversations will lead to questions, wonderments, and maybe even challenges. The only goal is to talk about things that you may not otherwise talk about. Check these links out and have fun talking to your children!
