Interactive White Board Linky Party- Ideas, Lessons and Resources

I am so excited and feel very fortunate that I just recently got a new Promethean Board installed in my classroom. I got some basic training, but would LOVE some additional insight from those of you who have already been teaching with one.
I thought what better ways to share ideas than with my first Linky Party? My followers are the best, most resourceful teachers around! Maybe you have a great flipchart you'd like to share, maybe it's a nifty website you've found, or possibly just a tip that would help us newbies out! Whatever information you have is likely more than I already have, so link up! I am so excited to find out what you already know and do with this amazing classroom tool.
Here are two things I learned at my initial training (I know probably old news to you pros, but I wanted to share SOMETHING since it is my Linky Party! :)
#1:  How many teachers use magic wands in their classroom? I know kindergarten is especially "magical", so it is definitely a prerequisite!
Well, I just found out that there is an ActiveWand for Promethean Boards!  Woo hoo!  As Mary (my excellent trainer who has been lucky enough to have a PB for 2 years in her classroom) took out the "magic" wand, it entranced me!  I was thinking of the possibilities of it with my kindergarten kiddos and how excited they will be to use a magical wand that will reach very high on the PB.  The magic wand + a step stool = being able to reach the ENTIRE board!  I love it and I just know they will, too!
#2:  Of course, with this awesome piece of technology, comes a remote.  I am the queen of sitting things down without thinking about it and needing my children to search high and low for me, so a remote is a dangerous tool for me.  So, when Mary (my PB trainer!) showed me a little trick she uses to prevent her from "misplacing" her remote, I knew that I would immediately use it in my class.  She hung a cosmetic bag (how about all of those free Clinique bags?) on the wall next to her board and that is where her remote is stored!  Marvelous-- now if I can just remember to put the remote in the bag, I'll be all set!
or for the less flowery look:

Your turn!  Link up with your great ideas, tips, lessons, and resources!

  2. Sure, do you think I should change the title to Interactive White Board, rather than the brand? This is all new to me (hence the reason for starting the party!)

  3. Where would you get a magic wand & does it work with Smart Boards too? I would love to get my hands on one of those.

  4. I think you would just go directly to the Promethean Company (ActiveInspire?) to get it. I'm not sure if Smart Board has one as well??? We'd have to look it up!

  5. As far as I have been told (having had a Smart Board for 2 years and honestly getting frustrated with it)....If you have a Promethean board, you can use the Smartboard notebook files (the format Smartboard files come in). If you have a Smartboard, you can NOT use Promethean flip-charts. My friends have Promethean boards, and they seem to be more kinder-friendly.

  7. Hahaha.... we all want a magic wand! Ok... I will come up with something and link up! =) Mostly I have my lessons on smartboards. Other than that I use it for the internet access and all the website with cool interactive things I can use to beef up lessons. I am not sure if I can see my SB lessons right now either because I don't have the software on my home computer. I have the files but no software. I will figure this out! =) I am excited to get some great resources!

  10. I just picked up some pointers from Dollar Tree. They are just wants with a hand on them w/ the index finger pointing (does that make sense?) They are great for helping our little shorties reach the board :)
    Linking up now!

  11. I added a link to my blog for the above linky party about my Everyday Math Grade 1 SMARTboard lessons. The blog entry provides a link to my website The Wise Owl Factory which has dozens of FREE SMARTboard lessons in math and reading. It has several science and social studies SMARTboard lessons, too. Good luck finding more! Carolyn

  12. Thank you Carolyn! Looks awesome. I might be able to use some of the lessons, especially towards the end of the year. I wish we could link up some more people for the party! I know there are tons of great resources out there!

  13. You could probably get it a wand from your school. All the primary classes at my school got one. You don't need a step stool if the have the wand. They can reach fine and you don't have to worry about them falling. They also have a teacher tablet that you can use and be able to walk around the board. Did you get voters? You will LOVE them. I have had my Promethean Board for two years and have never used thecwhite board since! I do everything on it. Www.prometheanplanet.com is a great place to get free flipcharts to get started. You can look on discovery education under media share for stuff too. Have fun! I know I do and the kids love it and become little experts at the tools changing colors, erasing, pen, marker, start over.

  14. How did I miss this linky party?!?!? I have had my Promethean Board for 3 years & LOVE it! I also love creating flipcharts with fun & interactive sounds & features. Since this post is several months old you may already know all there is to know. If you would like to visit my TPT store and look at some of my Promethean board flipcharts...email me a couple that you would like to try and I'll send them to you for FREE! I want everyone to see what all can be done to make learning fun!
